About the Workshop
This hands on one day workshop, led by Louisa Taylor, will explore the fundamentals of developing, mixing and troubleshooting your own glazes. You will learn the roles of materials in a glaze and how they interact to produce surfaces varying from matte, to satin, to glossy. Colourants and blending of recipes will be explored through line and biaxial blending.
All levels welcome, test tiles provided.
About Louisa
Louisa Taylor gained a BA (hons) degree in Ceramics, at Bath Spa University, followed by a master’s degree from the Royal College of Art, London. Examples of her work are held in private and public collections in the UK, and she has received numerous design awards and accolades. Alongside her practice, Louisa lectures on ceramics for the BA (Hons) 3D Design and Craft degree course at the University of Brighton and is the author of three books: Ceramics Bible, Ceramics Masterclass and Glazes for the Contemporary Maker. She is based in Brighton, UK.

- How to weigh out a glaze recipe
- Demonstration on how to prepare a glaze (water to powder ratio – how to gauge thickness), sieves (mesh sizes etc)
- Glaze testing – application techniques and methods
- Colour introduction and development
- Glaze testing methods – biaxial blend & intermixing
- Glaze troubleshooting
