4 Week Beginners Plus Evening Course

Your Tutor:

Lucy is our head technician and a graduate from the Ceramics BA at Cardiff School of Art and Design. She has been throwing since 2017 and makes and sells her own pots, alongside working and teaching at Fishponds Pottery.
Lucy’s own work draws on British studio pottery tradition, she makes functional wheel thrown pots designed to be used and loved everyday.
Lucy teaches our beginners plus and intermediate courses – she provides a structured and supportive learning environment and aims to build your confidence at the wheel.

The Course:

This four week course is designed to build on and challenge the foundational skills learned on our (or an equivalent) beginners course. We will guide you in making your throwing more efficient and build up to working with larger amounts of clay. We will also cover throwing wider forms on batts, pulling handles and manipulating cylinders to achieve more complex shapes.

Your input and ideas are always welcome on this course – if there is something specific you would like to throw, we can show you how!

Sessions are 3 hours long, running from 6pm – 9pm, with 15 minutes at the end reserved for clean up.

A fifth session will be arranged around a month after your course for you to glaze your pieces too. This, as well as all materials and firing costs are included in the course price.

Throwing is a craft that takes practice, patience, and persistence. We believe everyone can attain this skill, our workshops are designed to be a relaxed start on your ceramic journey.
