Throwing Courses
Here at Fishponds Pottery, we offer a range of throwing courses for all abilities; whether you’re a complete beginner or a more experienced thrower that needs a hand tackling complex forms.
Our Courses
Aimed at complete beginners, this course is designed to teach you all the wheel throwing basics – wedging, centring, throwing simple shapes and trimming are all covered. Our groups are a maximum of 6, meaning you’ll receive plenty of support and guidance from us.

Build upon the foundational skills learned on your beginners course. We will guide you in making your throwing more efficient and build up to working with larger amounts of clay. We will also cover throwing wider forms on batts, pulling handles and manipulating cylinders to achieve more complex shapes.
Suitable for those with at least 12 weeks throwing experience, our intermediate course is designed to really push your making skills. We will focus on intention and control, working through enclosed and split forms, pots with lids, handles and as ever aiming to make your throwing as efficient as possible.
